Passionate about working with couples of all types and have been working with couples and families for about 20 years. 

Qualifications

Graduate of East Carolina University Marriage and Family Therapy Program.

Licensed  as a Marriage and Family Therapist in both Virginia and North Carolina. 

Specialties & Issues

My practice is with couples and families. I will work with individuals if it is in a relational context, but nearly 100% of my practice is working with couples and families.

Provide Discernment Counseling (discernmentcounseling.com) and am a certified family mediator. 

Approach

Research demonstrates the two predicators of success in therapy are a person's motivation level to change and the quality of the relationship between the client and therapist. I believe in working with families collaboratively. I don't believe one model of therapy fits every situation, which is why I have taken trainings  in Gottman, The Developmental Model, EFT, Relational Life Therapy, and Discernment Counseling. Basic family systems theory guides my work. Family therapy is a dynamic "what's happening in the room" process and it is my desire to have client's leave a session with a focus to work on between sessions.

For Virginia clients we take Anthem, United, Cigna, Optima, and Optum.
