I am a seasoned clinician, experienced with working with a variety of populations. I've worked with children, teens, adults, members of the military, and have a particular focus on PTSD and related symptoms. I love having and working with animals, and in many cases I support having a companion animal, a therapy pet, or service animal to deal with mental health issues.
I have a passion for working with individuals dealing with women's issues, such as: domestic violence, physical and emotional abuse, miscarriage, frustration in the workplace, and more.
I am an animal lover, and spent many years rescuing and re-homing animals. I have raised, bred and trained horses, and used to have a private practice using horses as a metaphor in therapy. I still like to 'mine for metaphors' as this is a really powerful way to communicate emotions. Words just don't always do the trick. I am continuously working on myself in therapy, so I believe in the work!
I am an artist, and have worked in many mediums over the years, including stained glass, watercolors, pencil, pen and ink, sculpture/clay art, and etching. For awhile I designed, built and sold stained glass windows and designs. I also enjoy providing art therapy when appropriate.
I have a BS in Psychology from Indiana University, Bloomington. After moving to Louisville, Kentucky, I got my Master's in Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Louisville. I was in a special program where we moved through courses with a cohort, it was an amazing experience to be on the cutting edge of business and adult education! After moving to Montana, I worked in a therapeutic boarding school for girls. There, I decided I was interested in doing more, and got my Master's of Social Work from Walla Walla College in Missoula, Montana. I later served for many years on a State Board of Licensing for therapeutic boarding schools in Montana.
I also became an EAGALA (Equine Assisted Growth and Learning Association) Advanced Certified provider, and served as the Montana State Coordinator for EAGALA. I enjoyed hosting many training events at my horse farm, and enjoyed the opportunities to give lectures and participate at conferences all over the country.
Specialties & Issues
Trauma, anxiety, grief, and shame can develop quickly, but usually grow over time, and can have a lasting impact on our lives. You find ways to cope, but they don't always work in the long term. There may be triggers everywhere, things that remind you of what hurts and distracts you or keeps you from living your best life.
Nothing can change the past, but we can find a way to move into the future by being PRESENT. This is more difficult than we think!
I believe that YOU have the best answers for your well being. I take a solutions focused and client-centered approach to treatment. I also believe that keeping up on the latest research is key in making sure I'm guiding you in the right direction toward healing and wellness. I'm not here to tell you what to do, I'm here to help you find the solutions waiting to be noticed.
Services & Rates
I have decided to keep my rates simple:
$50 per 50-minute session - that's 50 minutes video face-to-face, and 10 minutes for documentation and planning on my part.
Why? I want to save you money and headache.
Many insurances these days offer mental health coverage, but with very large deductibles, in the thousands of dollars. I myself have struggled with this problem. My provider may or may not have been willing to submit to my insurance, so I ended up paying out of pocket. The rates for insurance are based on the idea that contracted providers will give a discount to their customers. So a rate of $125 may get reimbursed at $90. However, until you reach the deductible, you are paying out of pocket. Keeping things simple, charging a flat cash rate seemed the kindest approach for everyone.
Please note: Payments are due prior to sessions, and there is a $25 fee for appointments not cancelled 24 hours in advance.
I do not accept insurance at this time, however I can print a Superbill for you if you still wish to submit to your insurance company.
